Welcome to our Conference Camp Youth Leadership Program (CCYLP) application site! You are most likely here because you have either served as a Junior Counselor in the past or because someone learned about this program and thought you would be a great candidate.
This program is designed to create a culture of youth leadership at all of our North Texas Conference Camps. We have many different opportunities to serve depending on which grade you are currently in. Check out our FAQ below for more information.
Who is available to apply for the CCYLP?
The CCYLP is open to youth who have completed 7th -12th grade by the time camp starts.
What different roles do youth play at camp?
Junior Counselors - As a Junior Counselor your role at camp will be to help assist in leading Family Group time and to participate in a daily reflection time with other Junior Counselors. Those 9th and 10th graders attending as Junior Counselors for Children's camp will also be given tasks such as helping to facilitate large group games and other camp-wide activities.
Youth Counselors - Juniors and Seniors in high school are eligible to apply to be Youth Counselors. As a Youth Counselor, you will be asked to offer guidance to our Junior Counselors during their daily reflection. You will also be given the opportunity to shadow our camp Directors and learn more about what it takes to direct a summer camp at Bridgeport. Spots for Youth Counselor are limited, and if you are not chosen to be a youth counselor, you may be given the opportunity to be a Junior Counselor at one of our camps.
What opportunities are available for each grade?
7th-8th graders: if selected, are given the opportunity to lead as Junior Counselors at whichever Junior High Camp they attend.
9th-10th graders: if selected, are given the opportunity to lead as Junior Counselors at our Children's Camp.
11th-12th graders, if selected, are given multiple opportunities to serve and lead. They can choose to be Junior Counselors at Sr. High Camp or a Youth Counselor at one of our Children's or Junior High Camps. They may also choose to be a Junior Counselor at one of our Children's Camps if they do not feel comfortable with being a Youth Counselor.
Which Bridgeport Summer Camps are participating in the CCYLP in 2022?
We are excited to say that starting this year, all of our summer camps will be participating in the program. This means more opportunities for youth to serve at camp! However, as with registration, spots will fill up fast and space may be limited. Sign up soon and let us know which camps you are available so we can place you accordingly.
What are the weeks of each Bridgeport Camp?
Children's Camps: June 13-17, June 20-24, July 11-15, and July 25-29
Junior High Camps: June 27- July 1, and July 18-22
Senior High Camp: July 4-8
What is the Cost of participating in the CCYLP?
The cost of those attending Children's Camp as JCs or any camp as YCs will be covered by the program. Those attending as JCs at Junior High camp or Sr. High Camp will still be expected to pay for their camp experience. (Scholarships may be available for those in need)
Is there any training that happens prior to camp?
Yes! for 2022 we are adding a Spring CCYLP Training Weekend where we will spend the night at a local UMC Church training and preparing our JCs and YCs for leading at summer camp! Here they will get their first look at the curriculum, be lead through some leadership training on topics like leading a small group, and they will get an opportunity to meet the Camp Directors and other JCs and YCs they will be serving with.
